Mangroves have so much personality. They seem to be a unique type of forest on our beautiful planet. Thank you for this lesson.

I’m glad all the girls came home safely from that field trip-- which wasn’t a “field” at all but a mud trip. 😉

Mangroves are definitely special. And you're right, there were no fields in sight on that trip.

https://therevelator.org/mangroves-insects/ Way cool. I’m envious of your mangrove experience! There is some recent science finding lots of biodiversity in some mangrove forests.

Mangrove forests are fantastic, and the biodiversity in tropical mangrove forests is mind-blowing.

I absolutely love this (and seriously empathize with your friend who got stuck in the mud, because SAME, omg). Thanks for this lovely look into these amazing trees's stories!

Coming late to this, Melanie, but here at last. A great read, thank you, and one more thing to add to our trip to NZ.

Now what's all this about sealions having sex on golf courses? We need a report from our trusted NZ wildlife erotica author!

Thanks John.

As far as the sealions go, they are apparently using golf courses to avoid sex rather than have sex. They've been heading inland to give birth away from the amorous males.

Ah! I figured you would have the story. 🦭⛳

What a thorough presentation about mangroves! For the same reason I find the undersea extremophiles so interesting. Nature is interesting under unusual conditions. Modern helicopter parents have probably ruined your field trip as a possible future experience.

As a retired teacher, I'm impressed that your school did such an adventurous field trip! What a great way to encourage kids to get dirty in nature. Your picture of high tide in the mangroves made me want to pull out a kayak and explore. Thank you for great research as always!
