It was interesting to read about California drought in relation to all the rain that New Zealand is getting.

Thanks, Paul. I feel a bit bad complaining about it when I know other places could really do with it. I know we are lucky to have plentiful rain here although it doesn't seem like it when bits of the hill start falling down in slips.

i envy you / here in south texas we're into our 3rd month of 100F plus temperatures with no rain / it's oppressive / there's never been a summer like this and we're coming into the peak of it / actually the daily is falling a few degrees to 99 and 98 but it's still awful / other parts of the country like st. louis and kentucky are experiencing devastating floods / climate change sucks

That sounds rough. I know that I'm lucky to live in a place with enough water and a moderate climate, we have had some flooding but it's been nothing dangerous, not half as bad as some places in the US are experiencing.

I've heard the term "atmospheric river" on our local weather forecasts recently, but didn't know what they were - thanks for great explanations, as usual!

Thank you. I hadn't heard the term at all so I was intrigued, especially when they led me on to forest fires.
