"But they are another illustration of the complexity of the world we live in, and a reminder that we can’t wait until every question is answered before we take action." that sentence should have been first / WTF up people / humans the smartest species on the planet can't figure out how to respond to the environmental crisis that we created / help !! somebody help us !! we're only humans !! but there are no aliens arriving to help us / we can't even find a microbe of life out there / sink or swim to use a strangely appropriate analogy we're going thru this together and it won't be a debate issue to be politicized and used to gain power it'll be hey how do we survive ??

Yes, you're probably right. It's so frustrating that we are collectively doing so little.

Thanks Melanie, it's certainly a complex system. I really did appreciate the Ekman transport video; it helped me picture it very clearly.

Thanks. I've really found watching a good video helps a lot with certain complex concepts.

Really interesting - the more you write, the more I find I don't know, especially about the ocean. Love the analogy about the hose for the Venturi effect - that painted a very clear picture. I think one of our biggest faults as humans is our tendency to compartmentalize, when really what we need to understand is how very interconnected everything is.

Thanks Heather. I've always been very much a terrestrial biologist so looking at the ocean is very much a foray into my own areas of ignorance. The ocean is so fascinating though. And a great illustration of that interconnectedness, as you say.
